July 2011. Selected alternative medicine practitioners were invited to attend the Thirty-Seventh Annual Texas Association of Addiction Professionals (TAAP) State Conference on Addiction Studies. This event is the first time alternative practitioners have been invited to attend. Steven demonstrated Magnetic Auricular Therapy protocols for addiction.

April 2011. Testifying on behalf of the members of the American Organization of Bodywork Therapies of Asia (AOBTA) Steven Blackstone and Pamela Ferguson voiced their combined objections to the Complementary and Alternative Health Services Bills: SB 1084 and HB 1716 in the Texas capitol. The bills would have discredited alternative medicine practices by releasing practitioners of any licensing, certification or minimal educational requirements. The Texas Health Freedom Coalition, defending the bill, sought to deny the accountability and credibility of established professional associations supporting alternative health practices, specifically Acupressure, Bodywork, Mind-Body Healing, Qigong Energy Healing and Naturopathy.

Oct 2009. Contributor to the development of the Veteran’s Team  Recovery Integrated Immersion Program in Austin, Texas in association with the Veteran’s Administration and Austin Veterans and Family Advocacy Council. The program was established to address, from an alternative point of view, the specific physical, emotional and spiritual needs of veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and related conditions.
